Shall I make a philter and ensnare your soul?
They stand alone at the summit of a mountain. It is made from the bones of their predecessors, and held there by the song of their failure; its lyrics a shrill reminder (in D minor) that they now make the very slope which they had climbed so relentlessly upward, in search of its apex.
Woe, yet for the victorious: resounding triumph! They have slain their gods, and the heavens now bow before their shining glory; its lords swearing fealty as with one voice, and even its stones and its rivers crying out in praise. "Lo, the mighty," they cry, "under whom all are subjects, and whom all obey!"
